Frequently Asked Questions

What is a salt water lamp?

A salt water lamp is an eco-friendly emergency light that generates electricity through a chemical reaction between salt water, magnesium sheets and carbon sheets. It requires no batteries, no charging, and can be lit immediately by adding salt water, making it a portable and sustainable lighting solution.

How long can the salt water lamp stay lit?

Runtime depends on two separate factors:

  • Per saltwater fill (electrolyte): Each time you add fresh
saltwater, the lamp typically stays lit for about 10 – 72 hours,
depending on the model. Brightness gradually fades as the reaction
continues. When the light dims, add fresh saltwater — you do not
need to replace the energy block yet.
  • Per energy block (magnesium sheet): The replaceable metal
energy block powers the reaction. One energy block provides a
total of about 120 – 1,000 hours of cumulative runtime across
multiple saltwater refills, depending on the model. Replace the
block when it wears thin or turns white.

Example — Capsule Saltwater Lamp: ~10 hours per saltwater fill;
~160–220 hours per included energy block.

What is the operating temperature range of the salt water lamp?

-20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F).

How does a salt water lamp work?

It operates based on the principle of a primary battery: the magnesium alloy serves as the negative electrode, the activated carbon as the positive electrode, and the salt water as the electrolyte. When these three components come into contact, a chemical reaction occurs to generate electricity, which then lights up the built-in LED bulbs.

What is the brightness of the salt water lamp? Is it bright enough for daily use?

The brightness ranges from 100 to 350 lumens, varying by different product models and styles.

Is the salt water lamp safe?

The salt water lamp is completely safe. It has no fire hazards, emits no toxic fumes, and only leaves harmless mineral residue after long-term use.
